1112 ET - Carnival Chief Executive Josh Weinstein didn't confirm investors' fears that consumers are starting to spend less on travel, but emphasized cruises aren't immune to economic volatility. On a call with investors, he fielded questions about consumer confidence, but said he hasn't seen signs of demand softening. There aren't many differences among high- and low-earning customers, travelers aren't trading down for cheaper options and onboard spending actually jumped 10% in 1Q and is continuing to grow during the current quarter, he said. "I just want to recognize that there's just a lot of volatility in the backdrop," Weinstein said. "We don't promise anything other than we're going to do our best." (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
