Shares of American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines on Thursday fell after London's Heathrow Airport, one of the world's busiest hubs, shut down due to a power outage.
The carriers, which operate in Europe and internationally, traded down between 0.2% and 1% in morning trading, although United crept into positive territory around midday.
Flights from British Airways, owned by International Consolidated Airlines, were the most impacted by the airport's closure, with at least 30 of its flights diverted, according to Flightradar24.
IAG's London shares fell 2.8% to 2.83 British pounds.
However, North American airlines are also among those most severely disrupted. American Airlines was the second-hardest hit, with 10 flights diverted, and United Airlines had six redirected. Three Delta Air Lines flights were diverted as well.
Heathrow is one of the busiest hubs for international traffic, and is a major gateway for U.S. travelers to Europe. The airport remains closed due to a fire at an electrical substation, which led to a significant power outage, and it is expected to stay shut for the remainder of the day.
