ASX Midday Sector Update: Energy Stocks Soar, Financials Struggle

Consumer discretionary stocks rose 1.1% at midday Monday. Investors were cautious ahead of the reciprocal tariffs that US President Donald Trump said would go into effect from April 2.

Lottery (ASX:TLC) Chief Executive Sue van der Merwe will retire by the end of the year. Van der Merwe has been in the role for the past three years.

On the other hand, the consumer staples sector shed more than 1%.

Synlait Milk (NZE:SML, ASX:SM1) reported fiscal half-year earnings of NZ$0.0101 per diluted share, compared with a loss of NZ$0.4402 per diluted share a year earlier. Revenue for the six months ended Jan. 31 was NZ$916.8 million, up from NZ$793.5 million a year earlier.

Its shares fell over 9% in recent trading on Monday.
