Mining unions have launched legal action to force Rio Tinto into bargaining for the first union deal in Western Australia’s Pilbara region for three decades.
The Western Mine Workers Alliance applied to the Fair Work Commission on Wednesday for a majority support determination against the mining giant, based on its claim that over 400 production and maintenance workers at a key iron ore hub signed a petition for a union enterprise agreement.
