1628 ET - Global M&A volume is up 15.5% so far in 1Q, which has about a week left to go, despite a record low number of deals thanks largely to five megadeals in March that were each valued above $10 billion, according to a recent report from Mergermarket. Leading the pack was Alphabet's $32 billion acquisition of Wiz, which is the biggest deal of the year so far, followed by Constellation Energy's $26.6 billion agreement to buy Calpine, the report says. Deal volume was up 4% in North America, up 23.4% in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and up 53.4% in the Asia Pacific region, which hit a record high after three years of declines, the report says.
