Beauty Shoppers Are Favoring Generic Brands and Dupes -- Market Talk

1224 ET - Shoppers are becoming more willing to buy generic brand beauty products and buy online without first testing makeup or smelling perfumes, Jefferies analysts say. TikTok Shop has become a popular spot for young beauty-product buyers, particularly for brands considered dupes of more expensive products. Shoppers are trending younger, looking for value and have a better understanding of ingredients and formulations, making them more willing to buy private-label and dupe beauty items, the analysts say. E-commerce is expected to be the primary market-share gainer in beauty over the next three years, with Amazon and TikTok edging out brands such as Ulta. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
