Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.5%.

US equity indexes were lower Thursday as investors weighed the impact of President Donald Trump's auto tariffs and the economy unexpectedly grew above expectations in Q4.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) shed 0.8%, and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell 0.9%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.9%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also declined.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 2.2%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 2.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was down 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 1.2%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 0.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose less than 0.1%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.1%. Natural gas climbed 1.5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 1.7% higher.

Gold was up 1.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 1%. Silver rose 2.6%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) gained 2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was 0.8% higher; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) advanced as well.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.3%; retail fund VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) added 1.1%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was up 0.1%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.1% higher, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) gained. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.3%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) fell 0.6%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
