--Donald Trump has told his inner circle that Elon Musk will soon step back from his role in the administration, Politico reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
--Trump is pleased with Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency, but the two men decided in recent days that it was time for Musk to return to his businesses and take a supporting role, the people said, according to the report.
--The looming departure comes after members of the Trump administration and outside allies voiced frustration with Musk's unpredictability and expressed concerns that he has become a political liability, the report said.
--The retreat also comes after Musk spent millions of dollars to support the candidacy of a conservative judge who lost on Tuesday night in the race for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the report said.
