Tariffs Could Give Off-Price Retailers a Lift -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
03 Apr

0710 ET - The U.S. tariff blitz will likely create significant disruption in the retail market, greatly increasing the availability of product available to off-price retailers at attractive prices, says Citi, which upgrades TJX and Ross Stores to buy from neutral. Citi, which already had a buy rating on Burlington Stores, says a potentially weakening consumer environment could lead to more shoppers trading down to the off-price channel. The analysts add that the off-price group is defensively positioned in the near-term and well-positioned for continued long-term growth as other retailers struggle and close stores. TJX down 1.4% premarket, Ross Stores off 2%. (colin.kellaher@wsj.com)
