Stellantis, owner of Jeep and Ram, plans to extend its employee-discount program to the broader public on most new models, the latest move by carmakers to stoke sales following the Trump administration's tariffs on the automotive sector.
The program is effective Friday and covers the company's most popular models, including the Jeep Wrangler SUV and Ram light-duty pickup trucks, according to a memo seen by The Wall Street Journal. Customers could choose to use other promotions already available in April instead, the memo said.
The company was scheduled to brief U.S. dealers about the effort Friday morning. A Stellantis spokesperson didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Employee discounts normally can trim thousands of dollars off the cost of a new car or truck. Ford announced a similar promotion on Thursday.
Stellantis said Thursday it would temporarily pause production at a minivan factory in Windsor, Canada and a Jeep plant in Mexico in response to the tariffs.
