Microsoft (MSFT) has paused or delayed some data center development projects in locations including Indonesia, the UK, Australia, Illinois, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The pullback suggests Microsoft is reassessing its infrastructure needs to support artificial intelligence and cloud services, according to the report. The people said the technology company recently halted leasing talks for a site between London and Cambridge in the UK, which had been marketed for advanced Nvidia (NVDA) chip use. Additional talks for data center space near Chicago and for capacity from cloud provider CoreWeave (CRWV) have also been abandoned, the report said.

Among the affected developments is a paused expansion in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, where $262 million had already been invested. Microsoft has also paused construction on parts of a data center campus it owns near Jakarta.

Microsoft told Bloomberg it had made changes to its data center plans but declined to specify which projects were impacted. "We plan our data center capacity needs years in advance to ensure we have sufficient infrastructure in the right places," a Microsoft spokesperson said, as quoted by Bloomberg.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.

Shares were 2.7% lower in recent premarket activity.
