Alan Ai announced his departure as president of Nio's (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo earlier today, and CnEVPost has learned that Nio Power head Shen Fei will replace him.
Now, Shen has confirmed his new role in a post on the Onvo App for the first time as president of Onvo.
"As a veteran involved in building Nio Power's service network, I take on a new challenge today and am confident that I'll be joining you all on this new journey," Shen wrote.
"My team and I will continue to work diligently on service delivery and building an efficient marketing system,” he said.
Shen said he and the team will rely on the more than 700,000 Nio and Onvo owners to make more people aware of Onvo and choose it.
"Both the L60 and the soon-to-be-unveiled L90 are some of the most desirable vehicles of this era that spend every penny on peace of mind and freedom," Shen said.
The L60 midsize SUV (sport utility vehicle) is Onvo's first model and was launched in September last year, while the L90 mid-to-large size SUV is the brand's second model and is set to be unveiled at the Shanghai auto show at the end of this month.
Ai announced in a post on the Onvo App earlier today that he is stepping down from his role as Onvo's president with immediate effect.
An internal memo obtained by CnEVPost shows that Shen replaces Ai as president of Onvo and reports to Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong.
Shen is no longer head of Nio Power, which is now overseen by Nio CFO Stanley Qu.
Shen joined Nio in 2015 and is one of the electric vehicle (EV) maker's earliest core management members and one of the company's most experienced senior vice presidents.
Ai's departure was largely due to the Onvo L60's less-than-expected performance after its launch, and he said that his team had not been able to get the Onvo L60 to reach sales that matched its competitiveness.
Ai has made few public appearances after this year's Chinese New Year holiday.
Onvo launched its flexible battery upgrade service on February 28, when the event was hosted by Shen.
