Alibaba (HKG:9988), Tencent (HKG:0700) and ByteDance are among Chinese tech giants that placed orders worth $16 billion between January and March for Nvidia's H20 server chips, Reuters said Wednesday, citing a report from the Information.

The H20 chips are highly advanced artificial intelligence processors that are legally allowed to be exported to China, as per US export controls, Reuters reported.

US-listed Nvidia did not comment on the matter, while Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance did not respond to Reuters' requests for comments immediately, the report said.

Alibaba's shares dropped less than 5% and Tencent fell almost 2% in recent trade.
