一份备忘录显示，美国卫生与公众服务部（HHS）从周二清晨开始裁员，此举旨在落实部长小罗伯特·F·肯尼迪缩减员工规模的目标。
来自负责人力资源事务的副助理部长Tom Nagy的裁员通知于当地时间凌晨5点左右发出。据两位知情人士透露，部分或整个办公室被裁撤，包括负责性传播疾病、全球卫生以及出生缺陷的部门。
收到裁员通知的员工立即被禁入部门电脑系统，这意味着他们所负责项目的工作被迫暂停，也无法再与合作伙伴沟通。
此次裁员符合肯尼迪3月27日宣布的万人大裁员计划。叠加买断离职，预计该机构员工数将由8.2万降至6.2万。
