路透社3月31日 - 美国公用事业公司杜克能源DUK.N周一表示，美国核管理委员会（Nuclear Regulatory Commission$(NRC)$）已批准将其位于南卡罗来纳州的奥科尼（Oconee）核电站的许可证续期20年。
在经历了数十年的停滞之后，美国核工业在近期重新获得了关注，这主要得益于电力需求的激增，而电力需求的激增是由电力需求旺盛的数据中心推动的，同时企业也在寻找更清洁的能源。
更新后的许可证将允许奥科尼公司运营到 2053 年和 2054 年。该许可证原定于 2034 年到期。

该公司表示，所有杜克能源公司的核电厂均已获得初始许可证更新，可实现长达 60 年的运营，后续许可证更新后可实现长达 80 年的运营。
该公司表示，还计划为其位于南卡罗来纳州哈茨维尔的罗宾逊核电站提交许可证更新申请。
