BHP has agreed to negotiate for a deal covering power workers at its Western Australia mines in the first major victory of a union push to re-establish the labour movement in the Pilbara.
The concession comes as mining unions flagged extending their Pilbara organising efforts beyond BHP and Rio Tinto to the highly indebted Mineral Resources following a spate of truck crashes on its iron ore haul road network.
