Taiwan's Taiex Suffers Worst Day Since 1990 -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

0725 GMT - Taiwan's Taiex suffered its worst day since 1990, falling 9.7% to 19232.35. Taiwan's export-dependent economy and largest listed companies that make chips and other electronic products for U.S. tech giants are particularly vulnerable to U.S. tariffs. TSMC and Foxconn slid 10% and 9.8%, respectively. Quanta Computer declined 9.9% and MedieTek was 9.8% lower. Although semiconductor stocks are exempt from announced tariffs, Trump said tariffs on chips will come shortly. Goldman Sachs estimates a potential 9% earnings impact on MSCI Taiwan under its base-case tariff assumptions, through direct impact on exporters and indirect economic spillovers.
