Aircraft Prices to Rise from Tariffs, But Won't Immediately Be Passed to Buyers -- Market Talk

1538 ET [Dow Jones]--The price of new aircraft will likely rise if tariffs are long term, Deutsche Bank analysts say. Airlines may fly their older aircraft longer and postpone retirements as a result, which could also drive up lease rates and market values of older aircraft, the analysts say. Manufacturers may not immediately pass cost increases on to aircraft buyers because it usually takes at least two years between signing a contract and delivery. Pricing over that time is modified by price escalation formulas based on labor and commodity prices. Analysts believe cost increases from tariffs wouldn't be reflected in the existing escalation clauses, so buyers wouldn't experience price bumps right away. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
