1609 ET - U.S. stocks fall again as hopes of a tariffs relief are frustrated while chip makers perform well. Stocks rallied briefly in the morning, until the White House dismissed talk about a potential pause in trade wars. Trump announces more tariffs on China. Communication services is the best performing S&P 500 sector, rising 1%, while materials is the worst, falling 1.7%. Chip stocks rise, with Nvidia gaining 3.6% and Broadcom up 5.4%. Treasury yields and the dollar both strengthen. The DJIA drops 349 points, or 0.9% to 37966, the S&P 500 loses 0.2% to 5062, while the Nasdaq rises slightly to 15603.
