0822 ET - President Trump's reversal on tariffs makes it likely that the impact on global and digital ad spending from the recent trade war will look a lot like the hit it took when the pandemic struck: a large impact to 2Q and a strong bounce back in 3Q, Oppenheimer analysts say in a research note. They have updated their models for this scenario, making small cuts to the growth estimates for Google owner Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Trade Desk, Pinterest and Snap. A potentially worse scenario would be a prolonged global trade war resulting in a recession, which would require bigger cuts to growth expectations as digital advertising slows more dramatically, the analysts say.
