智通财经APP获悉，美国总统特朗普周二表示，他已告知承诺在美国新建工厂的台积电(TSM.US)，如果该公司不在美国建厂，就将被课以高达100%的税。特朗普在一次活动上批评前总统拜登向台积电位于美国亚利桑那州凤凰城的半导体工厂提供66亿美元的补贴，称半导体公司不需要这笔钱。他表示：“我没有给他们钱。我只是说，如果你不在这里建厂，你就得缴一大笔税。”
今年3月，台积电在白宫表示，未来四年内将在美国追加1000亿美元的投资，提高其芯片产量。加上这笔被该公司吹捧为“美国历史上最大的单笔外国投资”的投资，台积电在美国的总投资额达到了1650亿美元。台积电首席执行官魏哲家在白宫出席新闻发布会时表示，这笔资金将用于在美国兴建3座新晶圆厂、2座先进封装设施和1间研发中心。
在竞选期间及上任后，特朗普曾多次威胁要对进口芯片征收关税。他在2月曾扬言要对半导体设备和其他进口商品征收25%及更高的关税，且税率将在一年内大幅上涨。有分析指出，台积电在上月宣布追加的这笔高额投资意在安抚特朗普，回避芯片关税。
