1018 ET - Walmart's e-commerce operations will hit profitability as a stand-alone operation for the first time this fiscal year, says company CFO John David Rainey at the company's investor day. For years Walmart has said that its e-commerce operations were becoming more profitable through automating its supply chain and growing demand, which make each last-mile delivery more profitable through density, but hadn't set a date to reach that goal. Rainey says that in the current quarter Walmart is profitable in its U.S. business, with overall e-commerce profitability expected this year. Walmart is up 4%. (sarah.nassauer@wsj.com)
