Increase in power prices and renewables uptake an ‘unfortunate coincidence’

Clean Energy Council CEO Kane Thornton says there has been an “unfortunate coincidence” between the increase in the uptake of renewables and a rise in power prices.

“What the modelling at the time didn’t anticipate was the backend of a Covid crisis, the Russian war in Ukraine. Indeed, we’re now seeing Donald Trump and global tariff wars,” Mr Thornton told Sky News Australia.

“These were all uncertainties that weren’t known and understood at the time.”
