智通财经APP获悉，谷歌(GOOGL.US)旗下的自动驾驶部门Waymo周四表示，将于下周在东京开始通过人类驾驶员的试驾收集数据，这是该公司首次在美国以外的公共道路上使用其汽车。
这家总部位于加州的自动驾驶公司将部署25辆由驾驶员驾驶的捷豹I-PACE电动汽车，绘制日本首都主要区域的地图，并深入了解当地的基础设施和驾驶模式。
Waymo业务发展和战略合作主管Nicole Gavel在东京的一次活动上表示：“对我们来说，了解驾驶环境的差异以及当地驾驶的独特之处非常重要。”
Waymo正在与日本出租车公司Nihon Kotsu以及出租车应用程序Go合作，对这些车辆进行测试和服务。
Gavel表示，在完成初始测绘阶段后，Waymo的下一步目标是进行有驾驶员的自动驾驶测试，但他拒绝透露公司希望何时完成初始阶段。
Waymo表示，初步测试将在东京的七个区进行，包括港区和涩谷区。
