0758 GMT - Airbus, Thales and Leonardo potentially merging their satellite businesses could go ahead due to the more urgent need by the European Union to strengthen its space industry, Jefferies analysts Chloe Lemarie and Ben Brown say. The three companies are due to meet with the European Commissioner for Competitiveness Teresa Ribera on Wednesday to discuss the merger. Jefferies previously feared the merger could be blocked due to antitrust concerns. But the significant shift in EU priorities could lead to a more favorable approach to this proposal, despite some possible negative effect on European competition, the analysts say. Airbus falls 2.6%, Thales is down 0.3%, and Leonardo drops 3.2%. (cristina.gallardo@wsj.com)
