4月14日 - 英国石油公司BP.L周一称，在美国墨西哥湾的远南油田发现了石油。
这口勘探井是在距路易斯安那州海岸约120英里的Green Canyon 584区块钻探的。该公司在一份新闻稿中说，最初的油井和侧钻都遇到了石油，初步数据显示可能有商业油气量。
这一发现是在英国石油公司今年 2 月宣布彻底转变战略以扭转业绩不佳局面之后发现的，该公司削减了对可再生能源的计划投资，以重新专注于石油和天然气生产 (link)。
