BWX Technologies (BWXT) said Tuesday it had purchased about 97 acres in the Horizon Center Industrial Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as part of its commitment to establish a stable, long-term domestic supply of enriched uranium, a critical resource for national defense.
The company said the acquisition signals its intent to support future US defense missions by backing the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration and advancing centrifuge technology developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
The new site will house advanced centrifuge manufacturing and support services, with plans to generate hundreds of jobs and attract significant investment over the next decade, the company added.
