NVIDIA (NVDA) and AMD (AMD) will face new restrictions on the export of advanced microchips used for artificial intelligence applications to China, a US Commerce Department spokesperson said Tuesday, according to Reuters.

"The Commerce Department is committed to acting on the President's directive to safeguard our national and economic security," Reuters cited a spokesperson as saying.

The Commerce Department said it will issue new licensing requirements for exports of NVIDIA's H20 and AMD's MI308 AI chips and their equivalents to China, the report said.

NVIDIA, AMD, and the Commerce Department did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
