Rocket Lab (NASDAQ:RKLB) surged more than 4% in Tuesday's pre-market trading after it was selected to support hypersonic test programs with the U.S. Air Force and U.K. Ministry of Defence.
The company's HASTE vehicle, a suborbital variant of its Electron rocket, will be used for high-speed test missions. Rocket Lab will offer design, engineering, and launch services under both agreements, giving it the ability to bid for further contracts tied to the two governments' expanding hypersonic initiatives.
In the U.S., Rocket Lab was tapped to participate in the Enterprise-Wide Agile Acquisition Contract, a $46 billion project that runs through 2031. The program aims to accelerate adoption of advanced defense technologies across multiple domains.
In the U.K., Rocket Lab was named a supplier for the 1 billion Hypersonic Technologies & Capability Development Framework. The initiative is designed to fast-track the nation's hypersonic development pipeline.
Rocket Lab has previously completed three hypersonic missions for the U.S. Department of Defense, all launched from Virginia's Wallops Island.
