President Donald Trump said he does not support US Steel (X) being controlled by a non-US entity, Reuters reported Sunday, citing remarks made to reporters aboard Air Force One.
The comment echoed his earlier stance that discouraged the proposed $15 billion acquisition of the company by Japan's Nippon Steel, the news outlet reported.
Trump reportedly maintained that US Steel, a historic American industrial company, should remain under domestic ownership.
US Steel and Nippon Steel did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
