Equinor Suspends Empire Wind Offshore Construction After Halt Order

Equinor (EQNR) said Thursday it is suspending offshore construction for its Empire wind project off the coast of New York to comply with a halt work order issued by the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, or BOEM.

The company said it received BOEM's notice on Wednesday, directing a suspension of all activities on the outer continental shelf until the agency completes its review. Equinor added that it is engaging with authorities on the matter and is evaluating legal options, including a potential appeal.

Equinor said it is assessing the impact of the halt work order on the project's financing and noted that a full-stop scenario would expose it to termination fees related to deals with suppliers.
