China Mobile (SHA:600941, HKG:80941), China Telecom (SHA:601728, HKG:0728), and China Unicom (HKG:0762) were subpoenaed by US lawmakers over security concerns, Reuters reported Thursday.
The bipartisan move by the US House select committee on China followed fears the firms could misuse access to US data via their cloud and internet businesses, the report said.
Lawmakers said the companies ignored earlier requests for information tied to national security risks, including links to cyberattacks like Volt Typhoon, Reuters wrote. Beijing denied responsibility for such attacks.
The companies must respond by May 7 or face contempt charges, according to the report.
