The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 0.9% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) advanced 1% in Tuesday's premarket activity amid increased focus on quarterly earnings reports from US companies.
US stock futures were also higher, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.8%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.7%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.8% before the start of regular trading.
The Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index for April will be released at 10 am ET.
Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson is slated to speak at 9 am ET, followed by Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker at 9:30 am ET. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari speaks at 1:40 pm ET, Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin at 2:30 pm ET, and Governor Adriana Kugler at 6 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 1.3% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 1.4% higher.

Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) rose 0.9%, and the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 1.6% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was up 0.1%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) gained 1.2%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose by 0.6%.
Calix (CALX) shares were up more than 13% in recent Tuesday premarket activity after the company overnight reported higher-than-expected Q1 non-GAAP earnings and revenue.

The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) advanced 0.4%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) was up 0.9% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.9%.
Quest Diagnostics (DGX) stock was up 6.7% premarket after the company reported higher Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) was up by 0.8%.
Halliburton (HAL) stock was down 4.2% before Tuesday's opening bell after the company posted lower Q1 adjusted net income and revenue.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) advanced 0.6%, the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) gained 0.3%, while the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) was inactive.
GE Aerospace (GE) stock was up 3.2% before the opening bell after the company reported higher Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue.
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) was up 0.3%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was flat. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) gained 0.9%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was inactive.
Unilever (UL) shares were up 2.7% pre-bell after Reuters reported the company may halt its annual funding, which amounts to around $5 million, to the Ben & Jerry's Foundation unless it agrees to a fast-tracked audit of its donations.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) advanced 0.9%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 2.7%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 2.8% lower.
Hope Bancorp (HOPE) shares were down 1.7% pre-bell Tuesday after the company reported lower Q1 non-GAAP earnings and revenue.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained 1.6% to reach $64.10 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas advanced 1.1% to $3.05 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.6%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was flat.
Gold futures for June gained 1.2% to reach $3,464.80 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures advanced 0.6% to $33.02 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was up 1.1%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.1% lower.
