中美贸易战升温之际，韩国媒体引述消息人士称，中国警告韩国企业不要向美国军方和国防企业出口含有中国稀土的产品。
消息指出，中国政府向电力设备、电池、显示器、电动车、航空航天和医疗设备等行业的韩国企业发出信函，警告如果这些公司违反限制措施，可能会面临制裁。首尔政府认为，此举是北京方面加大努力加强对战略矿产出口管制的组成部分。中美陷入贸易僵局，面对美国大征高额关税，中国推出一连串反制措施，包括把7种稀土金属(钐、钆、铽、镝、镥、钪及钇)相关物列入出口管制清单。
据《纽约时报》早前称，由于出口商目前须向中国商务部申请许可证，故有关稀土的出口已暂停，许多美国公司只有很少或根本没有库存，有军事承包商更明言，担忧其稀土供应已被中断。美国依赖中国的稀土供应，目前中国控制全球逾三分二的稀土产量和90%以上的加工能力，稀土为汽车、无人机及导弹等产品必不可少的物料。
