Xiaomi is still planning to launch its first-ever sport utility vehicle this summer, the Chinese tech company said as it denied reports that it would delay the rollout after a fatal accident involving one of its cars.

The company's public relations manager, Wang Hua, said on his Weibo account on Wednesday that Xiaomi's upcoming YU7 model is set to hit the market in June or July, as Chief Executive Lei Jun has previously said.

In the Weibo post, Wang said that media reports that Xiaomi would push back the launch date were "absurd."

Late last month, a deadly crash in China involving one of Xiaomi's electric vehicles prompted some concern among industry analysts and the public about the safety of advanced driver-assistance systems.

Users on Chinese social-media sites expressed concern about the safety of assisted driving features that are widely used in EVs in China and have became a selling point for many brands.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said in a statement last week that it held a meeting with nearly 60 industry representatives and has warned automakers not to exaggerate the capabilities of autonomous-driving technology in their cars.
