The materials stocks advanced 1.29% at midday Thursday, following media reports that the administration of US President Donald Trump will consider lowering tariffs on imported Chinese goods following talks with Beijing.

Liontown Resources (ASX:LTR) said that its revenue for the fiscal third quarter came in at AU$104 million, rising 17% from AU$89 million in the second quarter, driven by increased sales volumes and average realized price. The company produced 95,709 dry metric tonnes of spodumene concentrate and sold 93,940 dry metric tonnes across five shipments.

On the flip side, the consumer staples sector struggled, falling 0.7%.

Scalare Partners (ASX:SCP) reported the soft launch of Ascend, its proprietary digital platform designed to streamline and scale support for early-stage technology companies. It said the platform will continue to be refined ahead of a public launch later in the year.
