Shipments of smartphones from China increased 3.3% to 71.6 million in the first quarter, according to data from IDC released April 17.
China's shipments outperformed global growth of 1.5% but were below IDC forecasts on the "modest" effect of government subsidies.
Xiaomi (HKG:1810) shipments led the pack with 13.3 million units and an 18.6% market share, followed by Huawei with 12.9 million and an 18% share, and Oppo at 11.2 million units and a 15.7% share, IDC said.
Vivo saw 10.3 million units shipped out with a 14.4% share and Apple, the only foreign-branded maker on the list, was fifth with 9.8 million units shipped and a 13.7% share, IDC reported.
US-China economic tensions may have fueled uncertainties, but growth in Q1 could help market players weather challenges for the rest of the year, the report said.
