Google Faces Elevated Volatility Risk Amid 1Q Results -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Yesterday

1142 ET - Ahead of 1Q earnings, Google faces tough advertising competition and tariff uncertainty, Bank of America analysts say in a research note. With business sentiment deteriorating as a result, it seems Wall Street is lowering expectations for the stock, meaning in-line 1Q earnings would likely be seen as a positive, the analysts say. But a miss, even if macro-related, could fuel already elevated competitive or regulatory concerns, positioning the stock at higher risk of volatility after reporting results, the analysts say. They add that 2Q outlook expectations remain muted amid a negative impact on ad spend from tariffs, growing competitor AI traffic and cautious third-party search data. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
