Delta Air Lines (DAL) said Monday a plane experienced an engine fire at Orlando International Airport in Florida, prompting passengers to evacuate using slides.
The Airbus A330 carrying over 290 people, including 282 customers, was supposed to depart for Atlanta when flames were observed in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft's two engines.
There were no initial reports of injuries, Delta said in an email statement to MT Newswires.
Delta's Flight 1213 was pushing back from the gate for departure at Orlando International Airport around 11:15 a.m. local time Monday when the engine caught fire, the Federal Aviation Administration told MT Newswires.
The FAA said it will investigate the incident.
Delta said it will bring in another aircraft to bring customers to their final destinations within the day.
"We appreciate our customers' cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible," a Delta spokesperson told MT Newswires.
Shares of Delta were down more than 4% in recent trading.
