United Airlines (UAL) said Thursday it has made an investment in blended wing aircraft company JetZero. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.
JetZero is developing a blended wing body or "all wing" aircraft design that may improve jet fuel efficiency by up to 50% while also enhancing passenger experience, United said.
The collaboration includes a path for United to order up to 100 planes with an option for an additional 100, based on JetZero achieving certain development milestones, the airline said.
JetZero was awarded a $235 million contract by the US Air Force in 2023 to support the development of its full-scale demonstrator, which is scheduled to make its first flight in 2027, United said.
