Ziff Davis (ZD) has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft- (MSFT) backed OpenAI, alleging that the latter infringed its copyrights and diluted its trademarks after illegally using Ziff Davis' content in training the chatbot behind ChatGPT.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in the US District Court of Delaware, with the company claiming that OpenAI "intentionally and relentlessly reproduced exact copies and created derivatives of Ziff Davis works without Ziff Davis's authorization."

Ziff Davis said in the suit that it is demanding a trial by jury and is seeking a permanent injunction against OpenAI, along with damages and the destruction of datasets that include Ziff Davis' copyrighted work.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
