From what we can see, insiders were net buyers in Exact Sciences Corporation's (NASDAQ:EXAS ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders acquired the stock in greater numbers than they sold it.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit.

Exact Sciences Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Chairman of The Board & CEO Kevin Conroy made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.0m worth of shares at a price of US$51.35 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$45.60. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Kevin Conroy was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Does Exact Sciences Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that Exact Sciences insiders own 0.8% of the company, worth about US$62m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
