The American billionaire pursuing Fortescue over the failure of a joint venture to redevelop coal and gas power stations in the United States will argue he missed out on $300 million in profit when the project fell apart.
Paul Tudor Jones’ Kid Shelleen is suing Fortescue, and in 2023 sought the reimbursement of about $US6.25 million associated with the bid, a trivial amount in the context of the personal fortunes of both Jones and Fortescue chairman Andrew Forrest. But this has escalated dramatically, after an expert witness in the matter suggested the true cost in terms of future profits to Kid Shelleen was close to $US200 million ($313 million).
