Wall St climbs as Fed rate cut hopes sink yields

Wall Street investors weighing the impacts of President Donald Trump’s trade war on Corporate America sent stocks climbing on bets the Federal Reserve could cut rates sooner than anticipated to prevent a recession.

The rebound in equities extended into a third straight day, with the S&P 500 up over 1 per cent and Nasdaq 100 rising about 2 per cent before Alphabet’s earnings. Traders betting Fed Chair Jerome Powell will be under pressure to ease policy if the labour market unravels sent Treasury yields and the dollar sliding.
