April 25 - Intel (INTC, Financial) CEO Lip-Bu Tan says he's in talks with TSMC (TSM, Financial) CEO C.C. Wei about teaming up, aiming for a true “win-win” partnership.

He noted his long friendship with Wei and TSMC's founder Morris Chang as a solid foundation for collaboration.

Intel's foundry arm has lagged, as most U.S. chip designers outsource production to specialists like TSMC.

The conversations likely happened at TSMC's Silicon Valley tech conference, though TSMC recently denied any joint-venture plans.

Even after beating Q1 forecasts, Intel stock slid more than 5% in after-hours trading.

CFO David Zinser pointed to trade-policy uncertainty and economic headwinds as clouds on the horizon.
