Small-Reactor Nuclear Stocks Slide on Quantum Computing Pessimism -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1422 ET - Small modular reactor nuclear energy stocks sink after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said it could be more than 15 years before there are really useful quantum computers. Investors believe AI and data centers could fuel demand for nuclear energy that's developed more efficiently in small reactors, making the SMR industry particularly reliant on tech's performance, Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives tells WSJ. Even though quantum computing doesn't require nuclear energy, the pessimism in tech's time tables, which dragged quantum computing hardware and software company IonQ down 37%, is giving investors pause when it comes to potential near-term energy demands. Nano Nuclear Energy, Oklo and NuScale Power each tumble 11%. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
