Qualcomm's board has approved a 4.7% increased in the chip maker's quarterly dividend, to 89 cents from 85 cents.

The new payout, equal to $3.56 a year, would represent an annual yield of about 2.25% based on Monday's closing price of $157.95, up from 2.15%.

The San Diego company on Tuesday said the increase is effective for dividends payable after March 27.
