United Microelectronics (UMC) said Tuesday that it has held the opening ceremony for its new Singapore fab facility, which will begin volume production in 2026.
The new facility will boost Singapore production capacity to more than 1 million microchip wafers a year, the company said.
The facility is an expansion adjacent to United Microelectronics' existing fab in Pasir Ris Wafer Fab Park, the company said.
During the first phase, the company said it will invest up to $5 billion to bring about full capacity 30,000 wafers per month, with room for further investment in a second phase.
