Shares of Siga Technologies jumped after the company's board declared a 60-cent per-share special cash dividend.
The stock was up 12% at $5.95 in early trading. Shares were changing hands at $9 this time a year ago.
The New York pharmaceutical company said Tuesday that the dividend is payable on May 15 to shareholders of record as of April 29.
This is the fourth year in a row that the company has issued a special cash dividend. Siga said the payout reflects the strength of its balance sheet and its confidence in the future of the business.
