Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOGL) Google unit hundreds of employees from the platforms and devices division, which handles Android, Pixel phones and the Chrome browser, The Information reported Thursday, citing a person with knowledge of the matter.

"Since combining the platforms and devices teams last year, we've focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January," a Google spokesperson said in a statement, according to The Information.

Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
